Honesty hour: It can be hard to bounce back after a break from blogging.
Taking a break from blogging can sometimes give us some much needed free time to focus on other things going on in life or just time off from post writing, queuing, desigining and brainstorming.
But I think anyone who has ever taken a break can agree that it can hard to get right back into the blogging swing (esp after a long break).
I took a break from blogging for a few weeks in December during my final essays and exams. I was expecting to have a bunch of queued posts, tons of fresh ideas and a new excitement for blogging.
Well, the deadline I had set for myself to restart posting was nearing and I still hadn’t written a single thing.
While I did get over my funk (as you can probably see if you’re reading this right now!), here are some tips that would have made it a lot quicker and easier:
1.Wait until you’re ready.
Similar to a post-break-up recovery, give yourself enough time off to take break from blogging in the first place. If you’re super stressed at work and write one mediocre post and then take only one week off to find that your next post is equally mediocre, consider giving yourself more time make room for blogging before well, blogging.
2. Get inspired.
During my break, I realised that I had totally cut myself off from the blogging world. I wasn’t reading any of my favourite blogs (and missed a ton of fun posts 🙁 ). Once I started reading them again, I remembered how much fun it it to type out my thoughts and come up with fun word plays.
3. Start small.
I’m not going to lie, sometimes, post writing can seem daunting. Some posts take lots of research (like this post on how to breathe while running) or take tons of photo editing time (like this post on Berlin). Instead of starting new again with a huge post, just do a simple post like a playlist or photo album.
4. Break it down.
Getting back into a posting routine can seem daunting, especically if you haven’t been creating any new content to fill posts with. Start small by going out to take pictures for a post before even titling it. I always find that if I have awesome pictures, I’m five times more excited to write a kick-ass post to go with them.
And that’s it!
Of course, taking a break from blogging isn’t always such a huge traumatic expirence. I’ve always belived in not pushing myself to do things I really don’t want to do or unessesarily stressing myself out. You’ll always be the one who knows what’s best for you.
Oh, and before you go, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Have you ever taken a blogging break before? What for?
Did you think it was hard to bounce back too?
